Holy Chili

the 119 years old National Museum opened its doors to the public after a 3 years restoration. The architectural renovation of the museum offers a refreshing way of presenting history. A month long of vibrant festival was held to celebrate the opening.

The opening celebration kicks off with UK group Avati Display presentation of the “Spurting Man”. The unequal relationship between the specialty performer , ‘Spurting Man’ and the undervalues assistant lays the basis of a series of comic interaction. With each trick of the Spurting man, showcases a display of dancing water and burst of colorful lights. The finale takes place with a finally crowned performer on top f his pedestal, water cascading from his body.

Amozozo, a huge plastic structure, inspired by Islamic architecture creates a unique ambiance of light and color, blending softly into the faces of the crowd.

No one should miss this cute expression on the baby merlion face

"Seed" is one of the permanent installation by the museum , a sculpture made from an excavated material, seed like in form

promising many possibilities and growth

"transformation" 60 stainless steel tubes of different lengths and diameters offering transformation possibilities in space

"Loft"... tango...boogie...choreography in mid air

Personaly, this tops all the spectacle

Appreciating art is good, appreciating it with your buddies is better ;)

What I Learned In Food Poisoning

Murmurs Mumblings - My Thoughts

conversation with myself, rants, and more mumblings

What I Learned In Food Poisoning

Lesson 1: Good friends will stick to you thru thick and thin

“Alagaan mo sarili mo dahil mag-isa ka lang dyan” my mum said many times, True, being in a another country no one will look after you in case you got sick. And when I am sick, I really, really get lonely. There was a time I was high with fever , I cried for my mum in my sleep. Yes, I am such a crybaby. Last week another ailment hits me, I got a bad case of food poisoning. My tummy was searing with pain , I threw up so many times and frequent trips to the toilet. The pain was intolerable that even after the doctor jabbed me twice with a painkiller I was still crawling in pain.
Then out of grogginess cum loneliness, I called a friend, unwittingly I whine (umatungal actually) about the pain and even ask if she can include me in her prayer. After hanging up the phone I fainted. After a few minutes, friend called back again, without any qualms she took a cab and she was going to my place to check me and rush me to the hospital. It was 3PM on a weekday. She is still at work and yet sensing my helplessness she rushed by my side. (After which I cried and cried like a loony in front of her). My friend, had seen the worse and the worst side of me and yet she sticks with me.

Lesson 2: Sometimes a phone call will make your day
Somewhere in between of contemplating loneliness, rushing to the toilet and crumpling in pain, just when you are about to go to the ‘dark’ side, your phone will ring up and a friendly voice will pull you from reality. My hunk/geek/nurse friend called me up and pulled my sanity that was slowly drifting away. Along with his witty remarks, he made me look onto some things on a more practical perspective…yun nga lang sabay hirit, “magkajowa na kasi eh!”

Although, I can barely walk I was still insisting to him that we should proceed with the Chili Stargazing project for the next day. All of us have a tight schedule and we have been planning this for weeks. I will definitely feel bad if it didn’t push thru. Well, actually the stargazing didn’t pushed through but instead there’s “wine/cheese discussion cum visit the bummed tummy” on my place the next day. Which leads to lesson num 3

Lesson 3: Great friends make small guilt
Madamot ako sa oras. I want to follow my schedule strictly, especially if I already set my heart on it. I easily feel disappointed if after some days of planning an event, suddenly it will get cancelled. The same thing with the stargazing, I was looking forward for it. Heck, I even already prepared the picnic basket and decided on the wines that I will bring. So I was really pissed on the bad timing for my tummy to revolt against my body system. Also, I will definitely feel guilty. BIhira na nga holiday, na cancel pa dahil sa tyan! Pwe!
But my friends with just a simple statement as “Masakit tyan ni Aoisoba, kaya duon na lang tayo sa place nya magmeet, and just like that they all agreed to go to my place. Eh kung ako yan mag-iinarte pa ako eh! Pano na picnic basket ko?!
Pero sabi ko nga with these people: no guilt and no explanations needed. (at msarap ang dala nilang “water of life” )

So on adding lesson 1, 2 and 3, we will get lesson 4 (which I also learned from my friend)

Lesson 4: One of the things you need when growing old: close friends
Just when you are at worst and all wrinkly they are the ones that will still continue to stick by your side.
True, it’s too early to say that we will stick with each other forever and ever. But personally, I am just happy that we managed to knock on each other’s lives and made a ripple of memories that we can always look back.

Oh and yeah…

Lesson 5 Never eat seafood dish at night, unless you are 100 % sure it is fresh

Nyak. Actually may lesson 6 pa regarding taking a jab….ask me personally na lang :P

The Land of 10,000 Temples

The Land of 10,000 Temples... Bali

Heaven is just a continuation of Bali ;P, this would gladly claim by some of the Balinese. Being a home to the vast majority of Indonesia's small Hindu minority, perhaps this is the reason why some 10,000 temples and shrines are tucked amid the island's serene landscape.

A holiday on this island wouldn't be complete without a visit to the temple. From there one can take a peek on the flow of religion diffusing soflt on the daily island life

Just for a quick escape from work, i took a 3 day holiday in Bali. Stayed in Bali Dynasty Hotel in Kuta, the interiors are nice and the staff are so friendly. From the hotel, it's only a 10 minutes walk to the Kuta Beach, and there i feasted my
eyes on the surfers i mean on the scenic view. (Okay people, personally i still prefer the beaches on the Pearl of the Orient)

Since it was only a short trip, my itinerary is also quite short, i managed to go to ride the glass bottom boat, go to the turtle island (again a real lesson not to forget thy slippers) to pose with the turtles, bat and a snake. And of course, a
visit to the island crafts village, the most famous one is Ubud. I went to the Batik workshop, woodcraft workshop and painting workshop. Geez, am such a sucker for this kind of this, i didn't went off the workshop without my wallet being unscathed *blush* I bought a painting in rice paper (>.<)

Oh yeah, i also made sure i stuffed myself with their native cuisines :)

Having a heavy heart.i lug my bags to the airport counter, i have yet to go to tanah lot and view the flourished beauty of the rice terrace. But hopefully, rather i will definitely go back to Bali again (paging: chili amigos muy amigas)

Still Standing

When taking pictures using the Ol' manual SLR (read: film) camera, the photographer had to take control of all the settings in the camera for the subject in the output picture will look well against the background. You have to control the aperture, the shutter speed, the ISO graininess and of course to focus on the subject. Except for the seasoned photographers, getting the combinations for all these setting can be too confusing and from time to time, you'll end up with frustrating results. Practice of course will definitely improves your skill. Or...you can get some 'help' thru technology. Such is the case of DigitalSLR,offering pre-programmed configurations to help you while you are busy fidlling with other settings. One case, you set the aperture and let the camera do the adjustment in shutter speed. PRoblem in setting the 'white' benchmark, there's the AWB. And for clueless the Auto-Pointand shoot mode is also available.

I run my life like a manual slr, i try to control all things in my life on my own: time, family affairs, budget, social affairs, career development, work habit, education and yes even my hair (Mantra: "hair straight out now!"). I tend to plan things 20 steps ahead to get the result that i want. Sometimes i get it, sometimes i don't.
Most of the times, no matter how detailed my plan there are these big variables: i cannot control other people, i cannot control my environment. And yes it is really frustrating and makes me wanna give up and slack.
My plate is just too full. I need help. I wanted to believe everything will still be alright. and that's where Faith comes in.

I pray to my Creator to enlighten me, to lend me strength and to give me grace. my Creator is like a pre-programmed configuration in cameras: we do the shots, He'll handle the settings. and voila, the picture will come out nicely.
It sounds trivial but i don't think i would still be able to appreciate everything that surruonds me now if He didn't helped me. PErhaps i would still be very busy fiddling on the "other knobs" of my life, that i would totally forgot to enjoy the the scenery.

Another late post.

Question: How many hours are you willing to wait to take pictures of NY fireworks?

My answer is 7 hours. it may be an over kill, but heck i have my chips, my book, my ipod and my dinner with me...oh and i even have enough for breakfast hahahah.Actually, i even have to go back to my flat because i forgot my tripod. Yup, i have my "survival" accesories but not my tripod.

I don't like my shots here, but oh well i'll just post as a memento of the 7 hours of erupting varicose veins.

Still Standing

Murmurs Mumblings - MyThoughts

Still Standing

In Boracay, there’s a bar stint called ‘Still Standing’. The main idea is you finished drinking all 15 concoctions liquors and be able to stand up. These concoctions, mind you, hits you really hard. So, either you’re a seasoned drinker or your stomach is made of lead to survive this one.

I suddenly remembered about this yesterday. I have a friend that had undergone a lot of trouble. She was bombed with problems, one after another. Definitely, she did not move out of that phase unscathed. But she definitely picked up the worthy pieces, emerges heads up and I dare say prettier. As what a lot of people say, life is not always wonderful. Life is a phase of ups and downs. If you fall, the most important thing you do, is that you must stand up. It may took a while, but stand up. The 15 concoctions is no match for the ordeal she went to, but now as she celebrates her 25th birthday, glad to say, she is still standing.

So, for chili A, get those glasses filled up and lifted up. Cheers!

The Great Columbian Writer

"Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, General Aureliano
Buendia was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to
discover ice."
~Gabriel Garcia Marquez (opening sentence of 'One Hundred Years of Solitude')

What would i give to have the same feeling when i first read Marquez's work, th OneHUndred Years of Solitude. I was easily swept by the first few pages of the book, i let myself be enveloped in the mystical world of Macondo. I finished the book feeling a lil bit sad, but truly in awe by this genius author. Sorry i need to brag, but i read it yearssssssss before oprah put it on her book club.

Wanting more, i scrimp on my allowance so that i can buy and read on his other books. (second hand books shops are not that nice in Manila or probably i am just not aware of one). I didn't even mind eating the same meal day after day, truly a Love in the time of Egg Sandwich. Anyway, i read from another blog that this great Columbian novelist celebrated his 80th birthday, with his hometown marking it with 80 canon shots ....wow!

sigh...i wonder if i can still meet him personally to sign my book (>.<)

and so i will end this entry with:

"He [Aureliano II ] had already understood that he would never leave
that room, for it was foreseen that the city of mirrors (or mirages) would
be wiped out by the wind and exiled from the memory of men at the
precise moment when Aureliano Babilonia would finish deciphering the
parchments, and that everything written on them was unrepeatable since time
immemorial and forever more, because races condemned to one hundred years
of solitude did not have a second opportunity on earth."
~One Hundred Years of Solitude, last words

to Gabirel Garcia Marquez, happy birthday and thank you for giving us the 'One Hundred years of Solitude'

Loose Snippets

Murmurs Mumblings - MyThoughts

conversation with myself, rants, and more mumblings

Loose Snippets

It's one of those times again, i am inflicted with my favorite recurring illness: acute lazy-nitis (very contagious)

i find myself spacing out again, and have to ask the people talking to me, to repeat what they said to me. Too lazy to take any pictures. Too lazy to write. too lazy to blog. (_ _) zzzzz

but just for the record. i will write down some snippets of what i did/ learned over the recent holiday

1.while majority of my friends are busy having their passports stamped, i locked myself inside the house for 3 days. Mushroom mode on

2. Okay, locking inside was not intentional. i decided to challenge the inner chef in me, so i created a dish ( i name it as AoiSoba's Surprise #1). Basically, i opened 1 can of tomato sauce, slice / throw all the vegetables i found on the ref to the pot and let it boil for 25 minutes ( most of the shops are closed and i forgot (lazy) to buy groceries prior to the holiday, so i am forced to do this makeshift cooking). After 3 hours...i got an urgent call from Mother Naycha. Frequent calls actually. Diagnosis: stomach Flu.

3. Someone gave me hong bao. Wheeeeeeee!

4. I went to a flower festival along with Pchan (my powershot cam) to seal the souls of unsuspecting people inside my camera...Nyahahahah! Well, i just want to take pictures actually. I only stayed for less than 3 hours and voila! i got tan lines (-_-). Chili D tried to cheer me up saying i got an instant tan without getting out of country, for some reason it doesn't sounds right!!!

5. Britney shaved her head. Kris and James marriage are on rocks. ;P

6. I got a copy of the album "WIth", now Kunimitsu Tezuka can repeatedly serenade me with his songs.

7. i finished working on some of my gundam model kits. They look like a happy bunch now

8. After watching the "Anthology" series, Rumiko Takahashi has reinstated herself as the best mangaka in my heart.

9. i finished reading "Vita Brevis", alleged letter of Floria Aemelia to Aurel (guess who is Aurel). This document is still subject for authentication. Regardless, I still find it a worth read. The way she weaves her words, will make you ponder for a while. Not for prudes.

10.My amusing bookreview of the week: My ex-housemate called me, she wanted to return the Briony book ( "Atonement" by Ian McEwan) that i loaned to her. She said it was too boring, and her bookshelf is getting bored with that book also (>.<)

11. After having the gall to change my photo in the fwendster, i got a lot of teasing/reactions from my friends. My favorite is: "O kelan ka nagpasex change?"
winner!

12. I have started reading the "autograph man" by zadie smith . Anyone care to share his/her thoughts?

13. My glaring skills is now up with one notch. I manage to make two kids hush up with one "will-you-shut-up" look. Probably, this is one of the reasons i don't have a younger sibling

Fan Day

Murmurs Mumblings - MyThoughts

Fan Day

This year i survived Valentines by going out with my friends. It's a pretty common way to celebrate Valentines, right? I may becoming too soft or nostalgic, but i find this valentines quite unique and special on its own.

Well it started with a "am-so-famished" kway teow and chicken wings eating, but take note, we are eating it in a small and dainty portions . Well we managed to clean 1 large plate and 10 wings. :)

Afterwhich we proceeded with the contest proper of for the Golden A award. The talent portion and the Q&A portions were very intense. In the end, Chili A beat all of us. ;P

But what i really like with this kind of sessions, we gripe on things and then we laught at it. We acknowledge it's something that it bother us, we don't try to pretend that it's not there then we dissect it, laugh at it and do the best thing we can, we stand up and move on.

We closed the night with a good plan involving blindfolds and target aiming *ehem*ehem* and walked back with a big smile smacked on our faces.

Their Story

Pulped Fiction

Some facts pulped to fiction, just for the heck of it

Their Story

I don't like him. The first time i saw him, it made my blood curl.
He is a newbie in the team and introduced to us, i only catched his first name, Ralph.
His feature is strikingly familiar with my ex boyfiend. Especially those eyes. I couldn't shake off the thought that he might indeed be connected with that person.
Since his module is diffent from mine, our interactions was minimal.
Then a few weeks past, a new project is about to kicked off. Ralph and me are owners of one big module. we talked little by little, although he was the one who will always start the conversation. Days gone, we were comforatbly bantering each other, sometimes saving each other's ass and sharing thoughts. Finally, i asked him if he was
any way related to my ex-boyfriend. He confirmed not even by a single blood nor he was friend with the guy.

"Is that the reason you were not talking to me when i was new in the team?" he asked beaming a smile.

I nodded sheepishly.

"Well, i don't know what happened, but whatever your decisions and deductions, i'm with you" he added.

"Touche!" i teased him

THe project went on full roll and it is really taking its toll on us, we're spending more and more time in the office than in our homes. But heck, the whole team were taking it all good. No single one was used as a scape goat , nor got stepped. No playing of favorites, everyone was important.
Of course there are times that my moral was really low, and suddenly i will see a box of fries placed at my side. Lana and Ralph bought it for me, my best buds. And on times that am in the middle of a heated discussion, Ralph will tap me on the shoulder and say "let’s just finish them first, then we'll reply" . And this never failed to cool me down.

One night, my friend Lana and I were busy changing some values in the configuration panel, Ralph came to my area:

"Hey I have a story to tell you guys" he started.

Me and Lana have out mouth open and said "uhmmm....Now?"

"Yeh, i mean, i'll just talk here, you go with what you doing" then he seated comfortably on top of my side table.

We just shrugged our shoulder and continue what we were doing.

Ralph then narrated:
" There was this frail girl who everyday goes to this small book shop, every day she will purchase one book from the store. She does this because she wanted to see the guy who is manning the cashier counter. She likes him so much but she is just too shy to introduce herself. The thing is she doesn't even read the books she bought, she contents herself to buying a book and seeing the guy.
One day, the girl stopped going to the bookshop.Weeks passed and still no sign from her. The guy noticed this and decided to track down her address. He knocked on the door and introduced himself. He got surprised, when the girl's mum told him that she died a month ago. With a heavy heart, he bids his condolence and went off..." Ralph then paused.

Me and Lana, were looking at him , our motions suspended in air and mouths gaped open.

Getting our attention, Ralph continued his story:
"The girl's mum seeing the lad walking away, she felt nostalgic and went to her daughter's room. The room was filled with lots and lots of books, each one of them left unopened from the shop bag.The mum randomly picked one of the books and opened it up, then a small piece of paper flew down. The note in the paper was: 'I like you for a long time now, call me and let's have a coffee' and next to it was the guy's phone number"

Me and Lana were dumbstruck, suddenly Ralph asked us "So what is the moral of the story?"

Lana, blurted out "And torpe ay natsutsugi?" (The gutless will die early?)

I have to laugh, with this tension breaker. But Ralph said "Nah, i think it's that when you have to say something, you have to say it immediately. say it loud. yes, telling your feelings might break your hear but you might also break theirs if you don't tell it. Life is too precious not to spent it with people you like"

and my only reply was " wow! that's deeep dude! way too deep".

Just like the other projects, this one is on the wraps and successfully implemented. The only qualm that we have is that the team will now be re-assigned to other groups. We'll be all now separated. But there was no regret, everyone did their best and proved it.

As project closure, the team decided to celebrate the last day with a party. Everyone had fun and had a litlle drink. The night wears on and everyone now is starting to go home, Ralph approached me.

"Hey dude, i had fun working with you!'
"Me too" I smiled back
"Thanks for coming"
"Of course i will come, it's the team's party"
"No, i mean, really thanks for coming"
I gave him a puzzled look
Ralph, shrugs and said "Oh by the way, here's my small gift to to you" then he handed me a blue diskette.
I gave a small laugh, took the diskette and bid him goodnight.
The next day, i was busy doing my laundry when i suddenly remembered the diskette he gave to me. Inserting the diskette on the PC drive, there was only one text document inside. In the text document, there was only one phrase:"The UAT DOCUMENT"

"Huh?" still curious i rummage at my files and opened the UAT document. I scanned the whole document, still cannot see anything different. I looked back on t he text document,
"The UAT DOCUMENT".

"well I am already looking at it?! what am i supposed to see!" i said exasperatedly.

Suddenly a thought occurred to me: the hard copy. i picked my bag and took out the printed copies of the UAT document. And there on the corner of the last page a note was written: “I love you for a long time now. Please call me and let's have coffee. –Ralph”

The "L" word

Murmurs Mumblings - MyThoughts (conversation with myself, rants, and more mumblings)

The “L” Word

February is here. As an earthling, i think i am allowed to be mushy from time to time.
Sometimes, mush is good...(allow only 5% though) and eating ampalaya is good too from time to time. With the risk of losing face and my mushroom image, i like to blabber a few things on the L-word. Further disclaimer: am not a subject matter expert, i just want to jot down the things i learned so far.

* Sometimes you don't have to look for love; it would come and hit you with a big hammer when you least expect it

Fate likes to tease. When you work yourself hard up to reach for someone, only big hairy
gremlins will parade on your nose. There are even instances, when you are looking good and feeling confident that you are ready to bump to your "target", chances are you won't. But on the days you look like a pork-meat-bun-squashed-under-a train-couch, you will bump into that person. Well, if the person indeed loves you, then he wouldn't mind what you look like then

* Love is a selfish emotion

People don't love because the other person asks to. It's a feeling oneself can feel. No one can make anyone feel anything other what they really feel. Feelings don't lie, they either get accepted or disregarded.

* Absence makes the heart grow fonder

Try not to be too available. Chances are, presence will eventually be taken for granted

* You cannot learn to love a person you don't like

Although, for some people this works, for some it doesn't. If you are trying to learn to love a person, just because your biological is ticking, all your friends are getting married and you are afraid to be alone. Better stop it. It will be just deluding yourself to like the person and it will be unfair for both of you

* It takes two to tango

Learn to compromise, but do not always do the bending. It has to be both ways.

* Love is not pity

Don't love a person just because you feel sorry for them. It's not even love.

* Long distance relationships is always a battle of the wit

Both of you will be faced with the eternal decision to:pin your hope and feeling for that person or to throw it all away for a pair of arms that are within proximity

* Love is not a thing of today only

Loving a person means loving who that person was (You cannot ask the person to get rid his past love or faults) and would be.

* Love is not a thing to fill a gap to feel complete

i still believe, completeness should come from oneself. It will definitely take awhile and the road might be bumpy. if you love a person because there is a need in you (afraid to be left alone, shelved or plain lonely), once that need is fulfilled already, then the 'love' is gone also. The sense of fulfillment has to come from oneself,it can't be found elsewhere

* Sometimes love can be phantom pain

Clinical description of phantom pain,is the pain felt for a missing limb. Sometimes you feel the pain because you lack something, lost something that wasn't initially there. Just take heart to let the phase pass and don't do anything stupidly rash like grabbing the person that will fall into your line of vision.

* love cannot be buried immediately. It just dies a slow death

sometimes, no matter how we like to delete an existence of person in our memory we just can't. You need to face the slow degradation of everything. One need to learn to stand
again and chin up. Remove all the stuffs that will remind that person (even gradually will do), it's the only way to make room for new memories.

* Sometimes it's not good to wait

Don't wait for things to get better. It’ll be totally frustrating after waiting, things didn't get better

* There is a level of likeness and it varies

Since feelings are a qualitative entity, we cannot demand the exact percentage of love to be given to us. A person probably likes to hang with you, talk with you and laugh with you, but it doesn't always mean that that person is in love with you. Probably, you are great friends but will not do as lovers. May i borrow the wisdom of my friend DayOhBee "Pag walang spark, walang spark"

* Love is something you feel and discern

If it is purely feelings, probably it's just an infatuation or you're being a drama queen. But if it'swithout feeling it's just rationalization

* No matter how overwhelming an emotion can be, sometimes it's better not to do anything or say anything

Sometimes, it's better to sit down and think thoroughly of the situation. The embarassment might not be worth it.

* You don't need a partner to love life

I agree it would be nice to have someone to share your love with. But it is also nice to be
alone and enjoy life. The first time we drew breathe, there was already a 50% chance that you'll meet your special someone and 50% that there is just no one for you. Either way, the only point is that don't let your partner or absence of your partner be the reference of being happy in life.

Then we can tumble, split, headstand, eggroll sabay nose bleed.

After 15 years

Murmurs Mumblings - MyThoughts (conversation with myself, rants, and more mumblings)

After 15 years

Today i have a twilight zone experience. I was walking out do some errands when i heard someone calling my name.It took me a while to see who is calling me. It turns out to be my HS crush. (Actually, i didn't recognized him, i have to politely ask for his name.)

I feel like a character inside in my own mind theater playing "what if after 15 years, you meet your crush again"
I didn't have a pleasant memory with this guy, he was wooing me while dating another gal. He got lucky that he graduated without me burning him on a stake.
Now, looking at him, i couldn't remember why i like this guy before. (Okay, i know i am not pretty, but he's so panget.)
Anyway, i'm glad to find out that he's already married and with a kid.

What i don't like is that after 3 hours he gave me a ring and flirting his way to have dinner, to "remisnisce the romantic ol' times". I laughed at him, simply said 'Dream on, there was never 'us' and never would be.Belat mo!' and bid goodbye.

Inhale...Exhale...

Fashion Tip

Murmurs Mumblings - MyThoughts (conversation with myself, rants, and more mumblings) Fashionably Correct

This morning at the church, the priest kindly invited the parishioners to the Chinese New Year mass. He added it would be nice if everyone would participate to dress up in red, but he strongly emphasized that do not mix up the red get-up with any green apparel, he doesn't want the parishioners to be looking like a confused christmas tree.

He is Fashionably Correct. Amen.
