What I Learned In Food Poisoning

What I Learned In Food Poisoning

Lesson 1: Good friends will stick to you thru thick and thin

“Alagaan mo sarili mo dahil mag-isa ka lang dyan” my mum said many times, True, being in a another country no one will look after you in case you got sick. And when I am sick, I really, really get lonely. There was a time I was high with fever , I cried for my mum in my sleep. Yes, I am such a crybaby. Last week another ailment hits me, I got a bad case of food poisoning. My tummy was searing with pain , I threw up so many times and frequent trips to the toilet. The pain was intolerable that even after the doctor jabbed me twice with a painkiller I was still crawling in pain.
Then out of grogginess cum loneliness, I called a friend, unwittingly I whine (umatungal actually) about the pain and even ask if she can include me in her prayer. After hanging up the phone I fainted. After a few minutes, friend called back again, without any qualms she took a cab and she was going to my place to check me and rush me to the hospital. It was 3PM on a weekday. She is still at work and yet sensing my helplessness she rushed by my side. (After which I cried and cried like a loony in front of her). My friend, had seen the worse and the worst side of me and yet she sticks with me.

Lesson 2: Sometimes a phone call will make your day
Somewhere in between of contemplating loneliness, rushing to the toilet and crumpling in pain, just when you are about to go to the ‘dark’ side, your phone will ring up and a friendly voice will pull you from reality. My hunk/geek/nurse friend called me up and pulled my sanity that was slowly drifting away. Along with his witty remarks, he made me look onto some things on a more practical perspective…yun nga lang sabay hirit, “magkajowa na kasi eh!”

Although, I can barely walk I was still insisting to him that we should proceed with the Chili Stargazing project for the next day. All of us have a tight schedule and we have been planning this for weeks. I will definitely feel bad if it didn’t push thru. Well, actually the stargazing didn’t pushed through but instead there’s “wine/cheese discussion cum visit the bummed tummy” on my place the next day. Which leads to lesson num 3

Lesson 3: Great friends make small guilt
Madamot ako sa oras. I want to follow my schedule strictly, especially if I already set my heart on it. I easily feel disappointed if after some days of planning an event, suddenly it will get cancelled. The same thing with the stargazing, I was looking forward for it. Heck, I even already prepared the picnic basket and decided on the wines that I will bring. So I was really pissed on the bad timing for my tummy to revolt against my body system. Also, I will definitely feel guilty. BIhira na nga holiday, na cancel pa dahil sa tyan! Pwe!
But my friends with just a simple statement as “Masakit tyan ni Aoisoba, kaya duon na lang tayo sa place nya magmeet, and just like that they all agreed to go to my place. Eh kung ako yan mag-iinarte pa ako eh! Pano na picnic basket ko?!
Pero sabi ko nga with these people: no guilt and no explanations needed. (at msarap ang dala nilang “water of life” )

So on adding lesson 1, 2 and 3, we will get lesson 4 (which I also learned from my friend)

Lesson 4: One of the things you need when growing old: close friends
Just when you are at worst and all wrinkly they are the ones that will still continue to stick by your side.
True, it’s too early to say that we will stick with each other forever and ever. But personally, I am just happy that we managed to knock on each other’s lives and made a ripple of memories that we can always look back.

Oh and yeah…

Lesson 5 Never eat seafood dish at night, unless you are 100 % sure it is fresh

Nyak. Actually may lesson 6 pa regarding taking a jab….ask me personally na lang :P
