Still Standing

Murmurs Mumblings - MyThoughts

conversation with myself, rants, and more mumblings

Still Standing

In Boracay, there’s a bar stint called ‘Still Standing’. The main idea is you finished drinking all 15 concoctions liquors and be able to stand up. These concoctions, mind you, hits you really hard. So, either you’re a seasoned drinker or your stomach is made of lead to survive this one.

I suddenly remembered about this yesterday. I have a friend that had undergone a lot of trouble. She was bombed with problems, one after another. Definitely, she did not move out of that phase unscathed. But she definitely picked up the worthy pieces, emerges heads up and I dare say prettier. As what a lot of people say, life is not always wonderful. Life is a phase of ups and downs. If you fall, the most important thing you do, is that you must stand up. It may took a while, but stand up. The 15 concoctions is no match for the ordeal she went to, but now as she celebrates her 25th birthday, glad to say, she is still standing.

So, for chili A, get those glasses filled up and lifted up. Cheers!

The Great Columbian Writer

The Great Columbian Writer

"Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, General Aureliano
Buendia was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to
discover ice."
~Gabriel Garcia Marquez (opening sentence of 'One Hundred Years of Solitude')

What would i give to have the same feeling when i first read Marquez's work, th OneHUndred Years of Solitude. I was easily swept by the first few pages of the book, i let myself be enveloped in the mystical world of Macondo. I finished the book feeling a lil bit sad, but truly in awe by this genius author. Sorry i need to brag, but i read it yearssssssss before oprah put it on her book club.

Wanting more, i scrimp on my allowance so that i can buy and read on his other books. (second hand books shops are not that nice in Manila or probably i am just not aware of one). I didn't even mind eating the same meal day after day, truly a Love in the time of Egg Sandwich. Anyway, i read from another blog that this great Columbian novelist celebrated his 80th birthday, with his hometown marking it with 80 canon shots ....wow!

sigh...i wonder if i can still meet him personally to sign my book (>.<)

and so i will end this entry with:

"He [Aureliano II ] had already understood that he would never leave
that room, for it was foreseen that the city of mirrors (or mirages) would
be wiped out by the wind and exiled from the memory of men at the
precise moment when Aureliano Babilonia would finish deciphering the
parchments, and that everything written on them was unrepeatable since time
immemorial and forever more, because races condemned to one hundred years
of solitude did not have a second opportunity on earth."
~One Hundred Years of Solitude, last words

to Gabirel Garcia Marquez, happy birthday and thank you for giving us the 'One Hundred years of Solitude'

Quote that

While a man will never run out of jokes, a woman has a constant supply of anedotes:

Scenario - Deciding which keychain to buy for myself

cousin: choose this one, para may kuliling sya.
AoiSoba: (in a dead serious honest note) Ah no thanks, sabi ng nanay ko may tuliling na daw ako sa ulo eh

You know what they say, that people come and go...they do.
